Anecdotes Regarding Don & Big Macs
Don, a Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native, ate his first Big Mac in April of 1972. As a teen, he had received his driver's license and wanted to drive somewhere. So off to McDonalds it was day after day to get the newest menu item, Big Macs. At first he just tossed the containers in the back seat of his car, but after a month of doing so, his friend refused to ride in the car due to the smell. So as he started to unload the cartons, he realized he had eaten 267 in the first month! That is about 9 Big Macs every day for a month. It was at that time he started recording his Big Macs in a pocket notebook that he always carries with him.
In those pocket notebooks he records the place, the number, and his cumulative (missing text) back, he can tell you the site of any of his Big Macs. He knows he has eaten a Big Mac in (missing text) continental states.
When Don married, his new wife cooked for about a month although he did keep eating his Big Macs. After a month, he asked her kindly if she would never mind cooking again. To this day, he rarely eats anything but two Big Macs, french fries, and a coke. He doesn't eat breakfast, nor lunch. During the day he chews gum and drinks 7-Up and after work he stops at McDonalds to place his regular order. On days he is not too hungry, he will skip the fries or one of the two Big Macs.
Don even eats Big Macs for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. His freezer always has a few for emergencies and Don will recall a Wisconsin ice storm when he couldn't get supper at McDonalds. Since 1980, he has only missed eating a Big Mac on 8 different occasions. Although it's been years since he missed a day, Don can recall the reason for each of those eight lapses.
For a man in his upper 40's, Don is fit and has no health problems. He credits his John Lennon hair to all the red beef he eats. Don said if he ever would feel a desire for fruit, McDonalds does offer an apple pie.
